The Power of Showing Up
Transformation happens when you show up. Over the past month, I attended three incredible conferences, each with its own theme, purpose, and power, and that was the common thread among all three. We often think of personal growth as something we can learn behind a screen or read in a book, and while those tools are valuable, real growth happens in the room. It happens when you step into new environments, open your heart to new ideas, and engage with people who inspire you to level up. Here’s what I experienced at each event, and why every professional should make in-person learning a priority.
What did the Ziglar Coaches Summit teach me about leading from health?
The Ziglar Coaches Summit was packed with incredible speakers, all sharing insights on improving our coaching, leadership, and communication skills. As a certified Ziglar coach, I expected to leave with business strategy. Instead, my biggest takeaway was about personal health.
I was deeply moved by a conversation between Tom Ziglar and Dr. Philip Ovadia, author of Stay Off My Operating Table. Their discussion about metabolic health struck a personal chord and inspired immediate action. I left that conference with a renewed commitment to:
- Complete my first 3-day fast
- Move my body for 30 intentional minutes every day
- Prioritize whole foods over processed convenience
Why? Because when I take care of my health, I show up better for my clients, my business, and my family. This wasn’t just about weight or wellness; it was about clarity, focus, and energy. Living a balanced life is what brings joy, peace, and purpose, and it starts with how we care for ourselves.
What happened at the Texas Business Women’s Annual Conference?
As Chairperson for the Texas Business Women’s Annual Conference, I had the joy and responsibility of helping lead the weekend, and of speaking on Intentional Conversations, one of my signature topics.
The theme of the conference was “Dare to Bee You,” a call to embrace our unique strengths and show up with authenticity. We explored the Strengths Finder assessment and learned how to use our natural gifts to step into our power.
But the most beautiful part? We learned that success doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when we build our Hive, a diverse circle of women with strengths that complement our own. This conference didn’t just educate us. It filled our souls. It reminded us that we already have what we need, and we’re even stronger together.
What did the E-Women Network Success Summit reveal about perseverance?
Finally, I attended the E-Women Network Success Summit, where the dynamic Sandra Yancy, CEO of E-Women Network, was the speaker. Her keynote was rich with wisdom, passion, and her signature PROFIT strategy, a blend of purpose, resilience, faith, and strategic action.
Sandra reminded us that success isn’t just about numbers. It’s about resilience and the ability to use your time wisely and focus on what moves the needle forward. She shared stories of perseverance through adversity, and I was reminded of the importance of showing up with faith, grit, and an unshakable belief in your calling, even when the path feels unclear.
What is the real ROI of being in the room?
Here’s the truth: every one of these conferences had amazing content, but the real transformation came from:
- Engaging in meaningful conversations with people I would never have met online
- Meeting new people and exchanging ideas
- Scheduling follow-up calls and partnerships
- Taking notes, reflecting, and implementing what I learned
This is the soft skills advantage at work. It’s not just what you know. It’s what you do with what you know. Soft skills are about action:
- Action to show up in unfamiliar places
- Action to speak to new people
- Action to follow through and apply what you learned
- Action to be present, focused, and intentional
Why do you belong in the room?
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this blog, it’s this: you belong in every room where growth happens. You don’t have to wait until you’re more ready, more polished, or more “successful.” The magic begins the moment you decide to show up and give yourself permission to grow, connect, and be seen.
Whether it’s a conference, a luncheon, a networking event, or a mastermind, your future self will thank you for every room you stepped into with an open heart and a willingness to grow.

Frequently asked questions
Is attending conferences really worth the time and money?
Yes, if you treat the room as the return. The content at any good conference is valuable, but the real transformation comes from meaningful conversations, new relationships, scheduled follow-ups, and implementing what you learn. Growth happens in the room, not behind a screen.
How do I get the most out of a conference?
Show up with intention: engage in conversations, meet new people, exchange ideas, and schedule follow-up calls before you leave. Then take notes, reflect, and implement. It’s not just what you know; it’s what you do with what you know.
Do you speak at conferences and events in Dallas-Fort Worth?
Yes. I’m based in Plano, Texas, and I speak at conferences, luncheons, and corporate events across the DFW area and beyond. Intentional Conversations is one of my signature topics, along with executive presence, leadership, and people skills.
